And in case it escaped anyone, this change also happens to be penalizing subscribers at the same time, who, like me, cannot talk to friends whom they've convinced to try the game. What I'm trying to get at is that we can't help them if they can't ask- and we should all be a little more keen to judge Bioware's decisions when they are fracturing the community. Because you never know, that newbie you help out could eventually become the leader of a great guild, that roleplayer everyone wants at their event, the PvPer people always want on their side, or the tank/healer that can carry just about any group, regardless of how disorganized everyone else is. We were all newbies once, and to be a community worth being a part of, we all have to do our part and act like it. Put yourself in someone else's place for a minute- what if that person who can't access chat is an honest player who legitimately needs help? What if they are stuck on something, or don't know where to find a key element of gameplay? That said, the blatantly snobby attitude of subscribers toward their F2P counterparts in this game has always astonished me. Not that I will stop opposing it, even if they do. More to the point, this is a really big, disruptive change to make without fully informing your playerbase, and I will continue to treat it as nothing but a bug until Bioware confirms that it isn't. Or perhaps allow F2P players to respond if someone else whispers them first, or has them on their friends list. One would think that at the very least, group chat would work- if you invite someone to a group, you obviously trust them enough to know they aren't going to spam you. Now she's level 15 and it hasn't changed at all, we're still stuck in this annoying cycle of stopping, tabbing out to chat via another program that isn't so discriminatory, and tabbing back in. I mistakenly reassured her that this would change, come level ten. I've been trying to help her get the hang of things, but it's difficult to do that when all of our communication is one-sided. I've noticed this too, and it's been really disruptive to my friend, who only joined a few days ago. The only mention is that Preferred players have increased access to chat but doesn't go over what the specific restrictions or increase is for either F2P or Preferred. The only reason I ask is because not being able to use chat at all can turn away F2P players from wanting to continue to play or subscribe to the game at some point of they can't interact with other players.Īlso the F2P FAQ page on the help site here doesn't say that F2P don't have chat access. The main thread on the issue is Answers page here.Īre F2P players not able to use chat at all no matter what? Besides becoming a subscriber does it affect preferred players. Some have even leveled to 50 and cannot use chat.

It does not specify what restrictions were changed but it is causing a major issue for F2P players.
STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC ONLINE UNABLE TO PARTY PATCH
I know as per patch 5.1.2 notes here it states the following: There seems to be an issue with the chat for F2P that prevents them from using any form of chat even whispers unless they are whispered first. I'm posting this for the F2P players since they cannot post here.
